Bills Release Edwards, Move On
I have to say that watching quarterback head coach Chan Gailey and general manager Buddy Nix make the decision to cut Trent Edwards in all of week 3 seems illogical. However, unless there is some inside unreported hidden information as to why he has been cut then I will go with what I think; 3 theories.
Edwards waived because he is ineffective and inefficient?
With comparing numbers and quarter back efficiency ratings, the Bills are right to start Ryan Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick put up 247 passing yards and 20 of 28 with an efficiency of 92.4 against the Patriots. Edwards went 241 total passing yards in his first two 2010 season games, 29 of 52, leaving him with a qb rating of 55.8 per nfl.com but 58.3 per my calculations.
He was about to hit his escalator clause. So instead of paying him 1.65 million and paying Fitzpatrick 2.36 and Brian Brohm 470,000; just waive him and cut costs.
So is it money or efficiency? One more theory.
Edwards suffered a concussion in 08’ when #24 Cardinals Adrian Wilson knocked him out on a blitz in the 3rd quarter. Because of this Bills fans believe he hasn’t played the same again and just do not have faith in him.
If Gailey and Nix are pleasing their fan base that really does not have much faith-good luck with that 3-5 year project.
With the plethora of quartbacks out there, a guaranteed losing season, and a good spot in next years draft why not give the snaps and starting position to Fitzpatrick and mold him? I still think waiving Edwards is stupid, because 2011 free agent Brohm is your back up.
Have fun Bills fans!
