DolfanJill’s Thoughts~ Dolphins @ Packers
Brandon Marshall this is Sterling Sharpe
NFL analyst and former Green Bay Packers wide receiver, Sterling Sharpe had a short career playing only 7 seasons, but he was amazing and could have been Hall of Fame material had he not been injured. Sharpe is easily forgotten and underrated due to the short period he played, but Dolphins wide receiver Brandon Marshall should know who he is for many reasons.
Marshall is a wide receiver just like Sharpe, and if you want to be the best you have learn from the best. Marshall said he would have to look at film to see what Sharpe did and what kind of numbers he put up. Well Marshall that is disappointing, because even I know who Sterling Sharpe is!
Sharpe was the Green Bay Packers first round #7 pick in the 1988 draft, where he started all 16 games in his rookie season and finished with 55 catches. Sharpe only played from 1988-1994 because of a neck injury, however he managed to make in impact and set high standards for all receivers competing in the NFL in his shortened career.
He had an amazing reach, was tough, caught everything, and was the first wide receiver to catch 100 balls in back to back seasons, 5 times All-Pro, 5 times Pro Bowl, 3 times he led the league in receiving and twice he broke the single season reception mark. Sharpe led in receptions in 1989, 1992, and 1993, as well as receiving touch downs in 1992 and 1994.
Sharpe never made it to the Super Bowl, but his little brother, Shannon Sharpe was able to give him one of his 3 Super Bowl rings. Currently both the Sterling brothers are commentators on NFL football, Shannon is on CBS, The NFL Today and Sterling is on ESPN.
Now although Sterling is most likely the worst commentator on NFL football, he was an amazing player. Marshall has every right to snap back and give his opinion, but when doing so and going to war make sure you know the enemy. Marshall should have at the very least “watch (ed) some film” and then he might not have said such a stupid comment.
I hope by now he has and who knows maybe he picked up some moves that can help us whoop up the Patriots tomorrow night. (MNF @ 830pm EST)
