31-23 Jets over Miami; 2-1 Tied Up

rec0927-175133 play to here my hoarse voice recap and opinion.

Last nights display of both the offense and defense was down right disappointing and offensive!

Jason Allen did loose his footing on the newly acquired turf that was placed down recently following a Marlins baseball game. This error allowed for Braylon Edwards to make a 67 yard touchdown. However, keep in mind that later in the game Edwards slipped as well.

Wish Kendall Langford was able to grab that ball he batted down, but maybe next week he’ll get his as well all have seen Tom Brady take big risks on passing plays.

Brandon Marshall did get his first touchdown as a Miami Dolphin on Sunday and he and Henne were making connections. Marshall grabbed 10 passes for 166 yards and that 1 TD.

Chad Henne threw for a career high of 363 yards 26/45, 2 TD’s, and a 91.4 QB rating.

Ricky William had neuropathy of the feet, always falling down last season, and this season he keeps fumbling; but this wasn’t a fumble. Williams finished with 28yards on 7 carries and has steadily declined after rushing 62 in the first to 58 in the second.

I wish we would keep the wild cat situations in the closer to the goal line and I certainly KNOW we should have set this play on the back burner for a while. All the wild cat did was off-set the rhythm, not to mention Ronnie Browns left handed pass that was clearly read; -6 yards.

Our biggest mistake of the game was not going for it! If you were on my twitter or saw my face book blow up with me typing and retyping “go for it”, then you know what I am talking about. Also, this was the perfect time to do just that. Why not we we were 4th and goal set on the 2. At this point who really cares, it was a better choice than the FG.

Tony Sparano:

“Now, there were some good things done last night, really good things. This quarterback (Chad Henne) got better last night. He really did some good things throwing the football. I thought all the receivers contributed and played well last night during the course of this game, so there were some really positive things done. Third-down offense I thought was pretty positive against a team like that. In their last 10 wins they’re holding people to 28 percent on third down. I mean we’re at 47 percent on third down and you would figure you’re going to have a pretty decent day. But again you’ve got to finish drives and you’ve got to score touchdowns and we got down there and weren’t able to do that.”

Recap NY Jets:

First quarter Dolphins kicked off and allowed Mark Sanchez to utilize TE Dustin Keller for both touchdowns scored in the first half.

Jason Taylor made his statement to Bill Parcells when he sacked Henne late in the first quarter; that burned I am sure.

Braylon Edwards, who was sitting idle on the sideline for the first quarter from his DUI this past week brought a 67 yard touchdown back in the third quarter; this because Jason Allen slipped. Edwards did make another grab for 20 yards on the third down where Allen was called for pass interference with 4 1/2 minutes left in the game. With New York given this disappointing wrong penalty and a first down on the Miami 1, the game was sealed.

With Sanchez having almost non-existent pressure he was able to sit back in the pocket and take his time looking for options when needed. Dolphins defense needed to step up and watch the mid field and TE coverage was a joke. Tackling wasn’t there and adjustments weren’t made; Damian Woody and  pushed back and held the line hard.

Year of Transformation

Miami_Dolphins

We are in the year of transformation, the year we take back what is ours and claim our Lombardi Trophy! 2010 is the year the Dolphins start from scratch.

Past to now:

In December 2007, I remember hearing the announcement that the Dolphins had hired a new Executive Vice President; Duane “The Big Tuna” Parcells. Parcells is notorious for cleaning house, transforming troubled teams into real contenders, and being very strict disciplinarian. So it came as no surprise that one of his first things he did was fire Cam Cameron, GM Mueller and various coaches. He then hired General Manager Jeff Ireland, Head Coach Tony Sparano and other various coaches.

After the a 1-15 season in 2007, the new Dolphins headquarters went to work and drafted Jake Long, Phillip Merling, Kendall Langford, Chad Henne, Lex Hilliard, and Donald Thomas, as well as  2  undrafted free agents; Dan Carpenter and Davone Bess. After the draft in 08’ Zach Thomas was released, Jason Taylor was traded to the Redskins for a second round draft in 2009, and Parcells picked up Penington, who he originally released to make room for Farve in his Jets days.

In 2008, Sparano’s first year as the Dolphins Head Coach, he was able to take the team from 1-15 to a ten game turn around the following season; 11-5. That year Dolphins also qualified for the playoffs and remains the only team to go on and win an AFC East Championship after such a destructive season.
Since implementing the 16 game season in 1978, only two teams have been able to post a winning record following a 1-15 season. One was under first year Head Coach Bill Parcells in 1997 where he took the 1996 Jets from 1-15 to 9-7.

With Parcells, the Dolphins have seen dramatic moves in regards to the roster, draft picks, and free agents. He is known for wanting to be heard in the War Room and demanding that his opinion be valued and respected, especially when it comes to the roster and values of the team and the franchise he represents.

Quick Recap:

In 2009, the Dolphins lost quarterback Pennington due to an injury and moved Henne to the starting role. One of the differences in switching from Pennington to Henne is that our tight ends are primarily used for pass protection. In comparing Henne’s 2009 and Pennington’s 2008 combined TE stats, Pennington had 15 more catches, 403 more yards and 6 more touchdowns than Henne. (Tight end, David Martin, missed the season due to injuring his right knee a week before the 2009 season began.)

2010 Changes:

The Dolphins needed to have both a passing and running game so they picked up wide receiver Brandon Marshall and relinquished their 2nd round pick.

Entering the draft Miami had first round, pick 12 and wanting to get back into the second round, Dolphins traded their pick to San Diego. The trade had Miami giving 12th, 110th, 173rd, and retaining 28th,  126th, and the acquired the Chargers LB Tim Dobbins.

Again, in case you somehow missed our picks we have:

1 – Jared Odrick, DL, Penn State (6-5, 304); 2 – Koa Misi, OLB, Utah (6-3, 251); 3 – John Jerry, G, Ole Miss (6-5, 328); 4 – A.J. Edds, OLB, Iowa (6-3, 247); 5 – Nolan Carroll, CB, Maryland (5-11, 204); 5 – Reshad Jones, S, Georgia (6-1, 214); 7 – Chris McCoy, OLB, Middle Tennessee (6-3, 251); 7 – Austin Spitler, LB, Ohio State (6-3, 235)

Justin Smiley (OG) is gone and traded to Jacksonville and Reggie Torbor
(LB) was cut. Zach Thomas signs and officially retired 5/20, and Cory Proctor (C) signed.

Watching the draft and knowing Parcells track record of turning teams into Super Bowl contenders was exciting and I believe with his knowledge and management we will be seeing some great things this 2010 season.

JT a Jet

Looks as though Parcells didn’t offer any money or want to renew the contract he rescinded in November. So as a result, Jason decided to sign on with the Jets today for a 2 year deal for up to $13 million and could earn  earn up to $3.75 million, with incentives.

I can understand the business aspect of football and many say its just a game, but to me it is the very thing I look forward to everyday. So to see Jason leave because he was offered no money is upsetting emotionally, but logically we need a new younger LB.  I just wish he would have stayed for one last season with Ricky Williams…and to have Marshall to help bring home an AFC East championship!
