Miami- Oakland Match up

In last weeks 16-0 loss, Julius Peppers had his eighth career game with at least 3 sacks. It’s an NFL best since he entered the league in 2002. (ESPN.com)

Unable to move the ball on offense, Brandon Marshall was penalized early in the game for taunting former Denver teammate Jay Cutler. Later, he dropped two passes and left the game near the ned of the second quarter because of a sore right hamstring. Not having some of their starters on the offensive line, back up QB Tyler Thigpen took six sacks, and couldn’t get anything done offensively. The team was 1-12 on third down conversions, and Thigpen finished the game 17/29, for 187 yards, with an interception. He fell to 1-11 as an NFL starter. As for Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown, they both combined for 11 yards on 6 carries. Defensively, The Dolphins allowed the Bears to convert 10 of 18 on third downs, and that put them in a position to score. With that happening, the Bears were rolling as Matt Forte scored a td, and Robbie Gould was hitting chip shots to put the Dolphins out of reach to make a comeback.

The (5-5) Dolphins head to Oakland, California as they are playing the Raiders who are just coming off a 35-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers last Sunday. The Steelers dominated them on both sides of the football as Oakland was unable to move the ball effectively and make plays defensively. Darren McFadden, who has been in the headlines previously for his outstanding performances, was averaging over 108 yards rushing per game; however, the Steelers defense shut him down as he only had 14 yards on 10 carries. Having trouble on 3rd and long, and the team being 3 for 14 on third down was also a huge problem said Tom Cable (Raiders Head Coach).

Both teams struggled last week on offense and defense, and are looking for ways to get back on track. Losing Pennington and Henne was a big loss to the offense as they weren’t able to produce. The team will have to rely on Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams to keep the pressure off of Thigpen who’s been struggling in the passing game.

Miami’s O vs Oakland’s D: Although the offense lost 2 of their best QB’s, it still has talent as Ronnie Brown and Ricky Willams are in the backfield. The team can’t rely on Thigpen’s arm to win the game, so it’s up to the offensive line to open holes for the star backs; that way, it could set up play action passes so play makers such as Brandon Marshall and Davone Bess, can take it in for a score.

Miami’s D vs Oakland’s O: Tom Cable’s squad doesn’t have other threats on his offense besides Darren McFadden. As long as the Miami defense is playing their assignments, and containing McFadden, that should cause turnovers and interceptions. Miami Dolphins Linebacker Cameron Wake leads the AFC with 8.5 sacks and is quite possibly heading for his first Pro Bowl Selection.

PREDICTION: If Miami limits mistakes on offense, and executes correctly, this is a winnable game

14-10 Over Vikings

The Miami Dolphins gave up the same 10 points to a struggling Minnesota Vikings yesterday, who are tied for last in their NFC North Division. The Dolphins defense was a key factor and both second year players Vontea Davis and Sean Smith were amazing in the sense that I finally see them stepping up as true secondary defenders.

As you know the Metrodome is loud and I was more than nervous about watching confusion and cadences being off, but I was impressed that we didn’t have too many issues there.

The Dolphins deferring instead of receiving definitely set a tone since I defense is more stable than our so-so offense.

Jason Allen had 2 interceptions with 3 pass breakups and 11 tackles solo.

Vontae Davis 1 interceptions.

Kao Misi recovered fumble for a touchdown.

Cameron Wake finished with 1 1/2 sacks for Miami, giving him an impressive 2.5 for the season already.

Chad Henne was 9 for 15 for 114 yards and Brandon Marshall had four catches for 71 yards.

Ronnie & Ricky Show” combined for 110 yards on 23 carries.

The Vikings had four turnovers, with three interceptions, and lost at home despite having more yardage than the Dolphins (364 yards to 226) and also had more possession time (35:48 to 24:12).

Vikings also lost the game due to a poor 20 percent efficiency rating; 1 t.d. from a fumble by Ricky Williams.

“I don’t know. You’ve got to ask people who weren’t watching about the statement (made by Miami’s defense) because we knew what we had. This has always been us. We always knew what tools we had. We’re not surprised at all. Nobody in this room or around the building is surprised. This is what we’re supposed to do.”

– Dolphins’ outside linebacker Cameron Wake

Preseason: Miami Dolphins (1-0) vs Jacksonville Jaguars (0-1) Match Up Overview

***I hope the Dolphins worked on the kinks and shook out all the knots, because this week we are one game closer to regular season.

Just a quick recap of last week for you:

Last week we played Tampa Bay, and there were not too many highlights to boast about. Miami Dolphins won 10-7 over the Tampa, with a ridiculous 2.4 yards per carry, 10 first downs and a total of 206 yards.

Quarter Back Chad Henne, averaged a mere 1.7 yards per pass after completing 5 of 11 for 19 yards and WR Brandon Marshall failed to catch either of the 2 passes thrown to him. However, rookie safety Reshad Jones had 5 tackles and rookie Austin Spitler finished the game second in takedowns with 4.

Today’s Game:

Today we will again take on another Florida team; Jacksonville Jaguars, for our second pre-season game; last week Jacksonville lost 27-28 to the Eagles in Philadelphia.

Now the Jaguars went 11-5 in 2007, but since then it’s been downhill to 5-11 in 2008 and 7-9 in 2009. With a losing record and a losing team, fans and owners have lost faith in Head Coach Jack Del Rio. For this reason, Del Rio’s head is on the chopping block and his 2010 team doesn’t look like it is going to save him.

*In 2009, their defense ranked 24th in the league, gave up 42 sacks, with 126 quarter back hits.

Last week the Jag’s allowed the Philadelphia Eagles to rake in 28 first downs and 496 yards and David Garrard connected at 50%, with 5 of 10 pass attempts for 35 yards; more yards than Henne with one less attempt.

Also, Maurice Jones-Drew had two attempts at the ball for zero yards, much like Marshall.

The Jaguars do not have enough man power on either side of the ball and with this weeks match up I would have to agree with Sportsbook.com’s Odds & Precitions of -2 against the home team Jaguars.

Jaguars Season Odds: AFC East Title prediction 40-1 and Super Bowl odds are 75—1.

Dolphins Season Odds: AFC East Title prediction 16-1 and Super Bowl odds are 30-1.
